Our adult sons each received a 4 bonsai tree kit for Christmas from us and we got one. On April 1 2024 we all plant our seeds. Our middle son had a peek of the Norway spruce and my oldest son has a start of the pinus thunbergii and I got nothing. So I replanted a second round. The second round brought me the flame tree. She us huge now and moved to her new pot and I am working on training her. She is beautiful! I have included her recent repotting.

I planted the 5 herbs as instructed but only 2 of the 5 even sprouted! My only guess is that the seeds were old as I planted 36 other plants successfully (another vendor). Would not buy again

It's a nice kit that comes with many seeds. I followed all the instructions for all the different bonsais. Only 4 seeds sprouted (2 of the same kind and the others were 2 different ones). 2 died within that same week and the 3rd one died a month later. I managed to keep one alive for almost a year. It grew only 4" and didn't look like it changed for a long time. I forgot to water it and the soul was dry so that one died. So sad. I wish more seeds would have germinated. Really, they should have. I am very disappointed and sad. I was so looking forward to having a bonsai finally

My daughter got this kit for Christmas. We tried it out and none of the seeds germinated. I went to the Home Grown website and sent an email to get a resolution and I have not received any response to my request for mew seeds. Do not purchase as their customer service is non-existent.

I have planted every seed that I received on February 18th. Nothing germinated and nothing grew. Out of 6 seeds per tree nothing has happened. I want a refund but am unable to request one. Do not waste your time or money on this product it is not worth it

They give you a handful of seeds foe various trees but non of the seeds will root. I had one pine seed root out of ALL the different seeds. Do not buy this product. Waste

I followed all the instructions perfectly. After 3 months of daily attention, only 1 plant of the 4 grew. The crepe Myrtle came up in a couple of weeks, but the other three never grew.

Followed the directions properly. Even tho ones that somehow they don't list on their item descriptions here about putting the seeds into the cold for weeks before even trying to plant them. Anyway, did everything according to the written directions with the product.

I originally bought this kit back in 2020, then repurchased again for Xmas 2023, thinking maybe the second try would be the trick. I should have listened to the other reviews and my previous experience and saved my money. Only three seeds TOTAL sprouted, and only one has survived more than a few weeks . I’ve given them the perfect climate, followed all the directions, and know what I’m doing as far as plant raising. Very upset that this was such a bummer purchase.

I really liked the process of planting all of them and kit was very cute. Followed everything as closely as possible and only the one sprouted. I did this in mid December and now in mid March this is as big as its gotten. Yes, I normally removed the fungus, but have basically given up at this point. Very disappointed as I bought 2 and gave one as a Christmas gift.

I received this as a gift and there was only 4 seeds (basil, thyme, parsley, and cilantro) the box labeled (cilantro, basil, parsley, mint, and chive). I never received the mint or the chives.

Have had this a few months. Only one one of the four bonzi trees produced any seedlings. And that one only produced two seedlings. Sadly, would not recommend this brand. Love the idea and will be looking elsewhere with hopes of better luck.

I purchased this back in December. I set up and grew specifically how the directions said and only one sprouted. I'm an avid gardener and grow all sorts of things and these were a waste for how expensive they were. It's a shame because I was really excited about these.

SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED. The kit came with 6 species (about 36 seeds). I followed the directions provided with the kit. Seversl of the seeds produced mold almost immediately, and only 3 of the seeds have actually produced sprouts almost 2 months later.

My experience with the Bonsai Tree Kit, Grow Your Own: Premium 4 Bonsai Trees Starter Kit has been somewhat mixed.
One notable downside is the limited quantity of seeds provided. I found myself expecting a more generous supply, and unfortunately, some of the seeds didn't germinate as expected, resulting in a less than ideal growing experience.
Moreover, I encountered a hiccup with the QR code on the packaging – it simply did not work. This was disappointing as I was hoping for additional guidance or tips that might have been accessible through the QR code.
On the positive side, the included pots and soil are of decent quality, and the instructions are clear, making it suitable for beginners. However, the challenges with seed quantity and germination, coupled with the non-functional QR code, leave room for improvement in the overall kit. If these issues are addressed, it could be a more satisfying experience for budding bonsai enthusiasts.

I would not get this again. It doesn’t grow. I follow the instructions and at first I put in 2 seeds each pot. There was nothing sprouting. Than I put all the seeds in. Still nothing. It such a waste of money. I even emailed them and got no respond.

It’s a cute little kit but it was missing one of the peat pellets. It’s disappointing to not have all of the parts but I am making do without it. Seems like a quality control issue. It’s too early to tell if the seeds will germinate and grow.

I got this kit today in the mail, it is important to remember to read the directions. If you get the ones in the picture along with the blue Jacaranda seeds ( <- those ones don't require any special stratification) but the other seeds do. If you'd rather read a review than the directions..
Starting in January or feb ( I did mine a bit early ) soak the seeds over 24 hours.
For the Chinese elm gently squeeze excess water out. ( GENTLY)
Fold them up in a paper towel, place In a zip lock bag and then into a container. Place in a cool place ( above freezing 31⁰f- 41⁰f ) like in your fridge.
Two have the same duration time and one is different.
Chinese Elm and Hinoki Cypress have a duration of 60 days Chinese Elm could go 30 too. ( goal is to replicate nature most germinate in spring to summer)
Crepe Myrtles duration is 30 days.
After words: when all the seeds have gone through their process; place your soil pucks onto a tray and use about 3/4ths cup of water per soil puck. Wait 15-20 minutes until pucks are soft and loose they should expand 4-5 times their size. Soil should be damp not dripping wet.
Mix together the nutrition packet ( sea weed )
And perlite into the soil and distribute evenly between the 4 pots. Leave 1/2" from top to rim.

I can't wait to see if these will grow for me. The directions are precise and helpful so HANG ONTO THE BOOKLET.
They packaged it beautifully came in pristine and perfect condition.

This was a gift for my son for Christmas. 4 of the 8 items listed were not in the kit. There were no seeds, no Kelp Nutrition pack no peat moss pellets and no perlite. All that came was pots, saucers, wooden markers and grow guide. Very disappointing! Have tried reordering but have recieved no ship date or expected delivery date.

First, my kit did not come with the nutrition packet deeming the entire thing “useless”. I was already ready to roll planting everything when I noticed. My fiancé is a landscaper and looked at the pellet product once it expanded and said it was pure garbage and we will get different soil to plant the herbs.
The instructions are conlficting, showing a wait time of 30-60 minutes in an image but then tells you to wait only 15 minutes to soak seeds and pellet. Did the water test on the seeds almost all of them float making them unusable. Now I can see why so many reviews talk about nothing sprouting.
Lastly, two of the wooden stakes came broken.
Overall it’s a terrible kit. Save your money and buy something better by doing your research

The Home Grown Bonsai starter kit is smaller than I had expected and is a very well packaged kit. With the easy-to-follow instructions I was able to mix the soil, plant the seeds and cover them with plastic to wait for them to start growing. I am patiently waiting for the seeds to emerge and will update on the progress. This is a wonderful kit for anyone looking to start the journey of tending to your own Bonsai Garden. It would also make a great gift.

My toddler and i did this as a fun activity together. He loved it! But sadly, very few of ours sprouted and some even grew mold! The few that sprouted seemed to stop growing and die within the first inch or 2. I only had all 5 of the norway spruce seeds sprout. 1 flame tree sprouted, the rest molded. 2 Japanese black pine sprouted and none of the last one. Instructions were easy to follow and definitely had fun doing this with my toddler. The hardest part was waiting for them to grow! I would definitely gift this to someone in the future and try other products by this company. Im sure every environment is different, so maybe some will have better luck than i did!

As a Bonsai grower you would know that true bonsai trees are not easily found in the US or grown from seedlings. This kit is a good way to attempt a fun hobby start, but is not really for new gardeners. It did well enough for the initial starting of the tree, but did not come with enough instructions for my nephew to keep them going after the initial sprout and into the growth part. I wouldn't recommend as a gift to someone with Bonsai experience, nor as a gift to someone new to plants. Perhaps to someone who has good plant knowledge, and is looking to get into Bonsai growing. Supplies look cute enough and come boxed as a gift set. But, I feel this is marked as a gift vs. a reality in growing Bonsai.
