  • 600+ seeds per pack - heirloom, non-GMO, USA grown
  • Open-pollinated heirloom variety - save seeds year after year from your harvest
  • Large, tender leaves - well suited for cooking, braising, or eating fresh
  • Adaptable grower - performs well in a range of garden settings and climates
  • Cold tolerant - flavor often improves after a light frost

Growing Tips

  • Direct sow or transplant: Start seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost date, or direct sow in the garden once soil temperatures reach at least 45 degrees F.
  • Planting depth: Sow seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep.
  • Spacing: Thin or transplant seedlings to 18 to 24 inches apart in rows 24 to 36 inches apart.
  • Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade. At least 6 hours of direct sun per day produces the best leaf growth.
  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells.
  • Harvest: Begin harvesting outer leaves once plants are established, typically 60 to 80 days from transplant. Picking outer leaves encourages continued growth.
