I'm having trouble germinating. My seeds!
Wanda Y.
Our adult sons each received a 4 bonsai tree kit for Christmas from us and we got one. On April 1 2024 we all plant our seeds. Our middle son had a peek of the Norway spruce and my oldest son has a start of the pinus thunbergii and I got nothing. So I replanted a second round. The second round brought me the flame tree. She us huge now and moved to her new pot and I am working on training her. She is beautiful! I have included her recent repotting.
Betty
Only 1 of the many seeds sprouted. This was my 2nd try. One of them sprouted the first time.
KARobison
My sister loved this. She is currently working on growing them. It makes a wonderful gift.
jamie young
Just planted nothing has sprouted yet. It takes time. Very nice kit.
Lena
I really liked the process of planting all of them and kit was very cute. Followed everything as closely as possible and only the one sprouted. I did this in mid December and now in mid March this is as big as its gotten. Yes, I normally removed the fungus, but have basically given up at this point. Very disappointed as I bought 2 and gave one as a Christmas gift.
Yaifeh
I received this as a gift and there was only 4 seeds (basil, thyme, parsley, and cilantro) the box labeled (cilantro, basil, parsley, mint, and chive). I never received the mint or the chives.
Tasha
Herbs didn't grow. I followed all instructions. Likely bad soil or old seeds...
Update- the company provided replacement seeds and was very responsive. Very pleased with their customer service. Hopefully it's successful. Thank you!
J Knapp
Have had this a few months. Only one one of the four bonzi trees produced any seedlings. And that one only produced two seedlings. Sadly, would not recommend this brand. Love the idea and will be looking elsewhere with hopes of better luck.
Kayly wilson
Cute project for my husband he loved this Christmas present! It’s been great watching them grow!
Kendra C ritlinger
Small pots, you have to your own potting soil and seeds need to be germinated
Sarah
The box was smaller than expected, but otherwise seems to be fair quality. I bought this as a gift and my brother-in-law loved it.
Donna M.
We had a gift exchange at Christmas and this was one of the items. It was stolen several times and was a huge hit at the party. Nicely packaged and great gift idea.
Patrick Donnelly
Loved the idea of having a small start herb set for her. Will make the kitchen smell great and be useful.

Bought this as a nice white elephant gift and it was the most wanted gift!
Claire
It is super hard did not grow one yet. But everything to start with some trick to have them grow.
Come with the dirt grow instruction few different seed, pots
Kyle b
I was able to start 2 of the 4 trees in a not so great environment but I also purchased a small grow light and heating pad.
pahla carden
Not what I expected
Victoria L. Marshall
Much smaller than I expected
Kim
My experience with the Bonsai Tree Kit, Grow Your Own: Premium 4 Bonsai Trees Starter Kit has been somewhat mixed.
One notable downside is the limited quantity of seeds provided. I found myself expecting a more generous supply, and unfortunately, some of the seeds didn't germinate as expected, resulting in a less than ideal growing experience.
Moreover, I encountered a hiccup with the QR code on the packaging – it simply did not work. This was disappointing as I was hoping for additional guidance or tips that might have been accessible through the QR code.
On the positive side, the included pots and soil are of decent quality, and the instructions are clear, making it suitable for beginners. However, the challenges with seed quantity and germination, coupled with the non-functional QR code, leave room for improvement in the overall kit. If these issues are addressed, it could be a more satisfying experience for budding bonsai enthusiasts.
Luc Lepore
The seed tags were broken unfortunately
Erika
It’s a cute little kit but it was missing one of the peat pellets. It’s disappointing to not have all of the parts but I am making do without it. Seems like a quality control issue. It’s too early to tell if the seeds will germinate and grow.
Melinda
Received this as a Christmas gift. It was missing one of the soil pods, and a stake was broken. Otherwise all items were included. Would like those replaced, if possible. Hopefully seeds will germinate!
Josh M
Easy to use and fun for the whole family!
PMedina1410
This was a gift for my brother. He enjoyed receiving it and was looking forward to growing a tree.
Robert Hageman
A very complete kit. Great instructions. At this point I’m not sure about how it will produce trees.
Mikokye
I got this kit today in the mail, it is important to remember to read the directions. If you get the ones in the picture along with the blue Jacaranda seeds ( <- those ones don't require any special stratification) but the other seeds do. If you'd rather read a review than the directions..
Starting in January or feb ( I did mine a bit early ) soak the seeds over 24 hours.
For the Chinese elm gently squeeze excess water out. ( GENTLY)
Fold them up in a paper towel, place In a zip lock bag and then into a container. Place in a cool place ( above freezing 31⁰f- 41⁰f ) like in your fridge.
Two have the same duration time and one is different.
Chinese Elm and Hinoki Cypress have a duration of 60 days Chinese Elm could go 30 too. ( goal is to replicate nature most germinate in spring to summer)
Crepe Myrtles duration is 30 days.
After words: when all the seeds have gone through their process; place your soil pucks onto a tray and use about 3/4ths cup of water per soil puck. Wait 15-20 minutes until pucks are soft and loose they should expand 4-5 times their size. Soil should be damp not dripping wet.
Mix together the nutrition packet ( sea weed )
And perlite into the soil and distribute evenly between the 4 pots. Leave 1/2" from top to rim.
The rest is in the pictures posted.
I can't wait to see if these will grow for me. The directions are precise and helpful so HANG ONTO THE BOOKLET.
They packaged it beautifully came in pristine and perfect condition.
Thank you to the sellers and the people who made this kit.

Very nice and satisfying

I haven't started the bonsi's yet, but look forward to planting the seeds.

Good amount for the money and shipped very fast to receive in time!

It was a Christmas gift for someone
connie j reding
Fun for kids to grow their own plants. And then plant outside.
Jordon Harris
Got this for my husband and he was super excited. It takes 2 years for the trees to be mature but it is fun watching them grow and feeling accomplished! Comes with everything you will need and the instructions were easy to follow.
Helz,,,,,
It looks really good, has everything you need to get started, haven't tried it yet but will
Paul Dutily

Amazon Customer
Box was damaged product seems ok it’s a gift so I think it’s ok
Amazon Customer
Box smaller than box in photo although all items listed may be included. This is a gift and I feel like what I am gifting looks cheap for the price I paid. May update once gift receiver attempts to grow the seeds. I would not buy this again.
Ashley Dryburgh
Got this for my mom and she loved it! It’s been almost a year and she has these cute little trees growing!
LC
This is the cutest little bonsai starter kit! I was surprised at the compact size when I received it but after receiving it I realize it is actually perfect to start these trees growing. I appreciate the step by step instructions that provide guidance on how to successfully get your bonsai tree growing! It includes everything that is needed.
AuntieMon
The Home Grown Bonsai starter kit is smaller than I had expected and is a very well packaged kit. With the easy-to-follow instructions I was able to mix the soil, plant the seeds and cover them with plastic to wait for them to start growing. I am patiently waiting for the seeds to emerge and will update on the progress. This is a wonderful kit for anyone looking to start the journey of tending to your own Bonsai Garden. It would also make a great gift.
emily
All we got was 2 stems grow and then die.
Kristian
Great customer experience! Had issues with the first sets of seeds and customer support was FAST reaching out and sending a replacement. I can't stress how important customer service is for me and this company was friendly, fast, and I can't wait to grow these bad boys.
Anon
My toddler and i did this as a fun activity together. He loved it! But sadly, very few of ours sprouted and some even grew mold! The few that sprouted seemed to stop growing and die within the first inch or 2. I only had all 5 of the norway spruce seeds sprout. 1 flame tree sprouted, the rest molded. 2 Japanese black pine sprouted and none of the last one. Instructions were easy to follow and definitely had fun doing this with my toddler. The hardest part was waiting for them to grow! I would definitely gift this to someone in the future and try other products by this company. Im sure every environment is different, so maybe some will have better luck than i did!
Austin
One out of the nine seeds made it.
Sally
Gave it to my mom and she has a green thumb but the plants turned out scrawny and we did not get any that provided herbs.
Mae Smith
I am just now putting seeds in. This is the soil provided PLUS some orchid soil I already had. This addition to the already provided soil does not even fill up half the pots in the kit. Seems like a good kit but not enough soil to grow the actual kit. I’ll try to provide more info later if and when the seeds actually grow.
SuburbanHousewifeMN
As a Bonsai grower you would know that true bonsai trees are not easily found in the US or grown from seedlings. This kit is a good way to attempt a fun hobby start, but is not really for new gardeners. It did well enough for the initial starting of the tree, but did not come with enough instructions for my nephew to keep them going after the initial sprout and into the growth part. I wouldn't recommend as a gift to someone with Bonsai experience, nor as a gift to someone new to plants. Perhaps to someone who has good plant knowledge, and is looking to get into Bonsai growing. Supplies look cute enough and come boxed as a gift set. But, I feel this is marked as a gift vs. a reality in growing Bonsai.
Jessica Hartman
First time planting these and I only saw AFTER I had planted them that I was supposed to soak some of the seeds. Those didn’t grow (shocker) but we do have one that is growing a little, but I have no hopes any of them will turn into a tree. This was a fun project to do with my toddler though.
CowboyBob
UPDATE: Seller reached out very apologetically and addressed my concerns. Good people. Updating my review to 5 stars as a result.
Followed directions. Only the evergreens have sprouted. Disappointed that the Flame Tree and Blue Jacaranda don't appear to have done anything after several weeks.
Shawna D
Not all herbs sprouted.
Joshua Zimmerman
Got 3 of the 4 advertised will still plant the other one but don't feel like it is a bonsai....I could be wrong we will see.
christy olsen
Haven’t started them yet but with everything it comes with I’m gonna have fun plus all the directions come with
Thank you
Bradley Berkefelt
Followed the instructions exactly and still only 2 seeds sprouted and pretty much died as soon as they came out the dirt.
Geraldo Goodwin
I liked that it was all in one package and have easy to follow instructions
Heather Parks
I got this for my mother-in-law, who is so very picky and hard to buy for. She loved loved loved it!
Rebecca Holdorf
I gave these as a Christmas gift

Easy and Simple
Dawn Champion
Great gift
Nice kit
James helgeson
My cats destroyed them
Sarah
Mint did not grow at all. Basil tried and died. Chives and parsley keep trying. Cilantro looks great.
I think this is a great kit for beginners but don't get your hopes up. I also had to repot them into more breathable containers to prevent mold of the soil matter.
It's not a bad purchase just definitely think it could be better.

Quick and easy to grow.

Update: The seller reached out to me after I published this review and gave me a full refund and even offered to send a new kit to try again. Super impressed with their professionalism. Updating review to 4 stars simply for the efforts they made to improve my experience.
Original post:
Bought this as a family activity. Each plant type comes with multiple seeds. Followed the preparation instructions to a T. Only one single seed from the whole kit sprouted. Super disappointing.
Lacey
I got 3 of the trees it said the other is different and it is not in the book to tell u how to care for it or anything and none of my seeds germinated at all I’m disappointed in this kit because I really wanted to grow my own.
dana mcgonigle
The plants developed a mildew coating after two days.
Anita R.
Product was delivered quickly and packed carefully. This is a gift...and recipient is eager to start seeds.
Brooklyn
This bonsai kit was super easy to get started. I planted half a packet of seeds and not all the seeds worked however I did get one of each of them to grow. Now I’m just excited to watch them get bigger.
Shanika B.
The kit was smaller than I expected however I am 100% satisfied!! It’s been 1 month and I have 2 beautiful sprouts Super excited to see this tree 5years from now
Maj22
Just what I was looking for
Dot
I think this is a great gift. I kept mind in a box linger then I should before planting and only one of the seeds bloom.
Joe Langhals
Did not grow..
Update 2/26
Seller offered a full refund outside of the return window. I would consider buying from them again.
Xuena
The pots are cute. We followed the instructions closely. Not sure what went wrong, nothing came out after more than 3 months. We used the pots for other indoor plants.
Ivy
This is a great gift with thorough instructions, only two sprouted but I’m not sure if that was at the fault of the seeds or something on our part
hanging by a thread
Out of the four different styles, only one has sprouted. It’s been two months and, nothing. Seems like this is a common issue. Very disappointed
J.Lynn
I bought this kit for myself as a Christmas gift this year. I was very hopeful, but almost immediately that hope fizzled. When opening the bonsai kit I first noticed the soil pellets included are not proper for bonsai plants. Bonsai plants require well draining soil with additives like perlite and lava stone. The soil included in this kit is not a well draining soil and is made for other kinds of plants. Next, bonsai plants grow best in soil temperatures around 70 to 80°, which means most likely you will need a heating mat, which is not included in the kit. Out of all four kinds of bonsai included in this kit, only one sprouted. The one that sprouted had very large seeds. About the size of your average multivitamin. The other three of four that did not sprout, had seeds that did not even look right. They looked like little flecks of paper, smaller than 1/2 the length of my pinky nail and thinner than printer paper. I followed the directions perfectly, planted all four strains, 3 seeds each, in separate pots on December 16. After almost 2 full months, again only 2 seeds from one strain has sprouted, the flame tree. This kit was way over priced for what it includes and for the success rate of seeds included. To only have two sprouts out of 12 total seeds is not OK. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this kit to other people and will not be purchasing again.
Greg M.
As an experienced bonsai grower with 30 years under my belt with saplings and seed, I’m very disappointed that only two seeds sprouted.
I wrote the company three weeks ago, requesting a replacement set of seeds and have received no response to date.
Trisha B
Went by the directions and nothing.
Seeds are junk.
Kits was ok, so I gave it two stars.
Not worth the money.
Stefanie B.
We have not planted them yet but we are so excited to do so
Victor
Only 2 of them grew. But not for beginners took a lot for the others to grow almost double the time to even see the sprouts come up but then they died after taking forever to grow. I would pass on it.
T. Vang - Wisconsin
This is a great idea, but there were items missing from the box. It took weeks to hear back from the manufacturer to fix the missing items.
Myself
This is a well put together kit, very good quality and great, easy instructions. Best to note that it takes a long time to grow Bonsai trees so be patient!

Wonderful little starter greenhouse for my window herbs.
MANNY A.
Recipient was extremely pleased … especially when reading the gift included the trees and the planters.
Swati
Great for herb garden. All of my plants grew within a week

Just started the planting process but these are so cute instructions are easy I’m getting anxious waiting for them to grow!
