The kit comes with everything you need. I went exactly by directions and only 3 of the probably ~40 seeds planted actually have grown. Mold/algae formed on the soil within a few days. I think it was something in the nutrient packet they have you mix in the soil. Smelled terrible. And only 1 of those 3 seedlings is still alive after I transplanted it to cactus soil that you buy at home Depot. Spent a lot of money on this kit for sorry results.

I only had 2 out of 4 pots even have anything. The sprouts barely grew at all and have just stopped completely. It was definitely a waste of money to buy this kit. Better off spending your money on buying each of the supplies and seeds individually.

It was a cute Christmas gift idea for my daughter who followed the instructions meticulously. Unfortunately, 4 months later and we have not have much success with the plants. I even fed them extra fertilizer. We have two small starts but they haven't seem to grow since they sprouted.

It could very easily be that I do not have the green thumb, or Florida is too hot, as the sprouts did not take or grow. However, the set itself is very cute, and would make a great gift idea! Everything looks fine but I guess I was expecting a little bit bigger package - the dimensions were right in front of me for both the package itself and the pots but it didn't sink in that this is pretty small stuff - for some reason I was picturing four larger pots that would have filled the window sill - since its a gift, I haven't opened it yet but the pots must be the size of shot glasses ..

The “succulent and cactus” package includes a variety of cacti and grasses. This is a beautifully packaged kit for making your own little desert garden, but if you are looking for succulents, you will need different seeds. The pots are shiny and feel very solid. The plant stakes are just the right size, so you can write the plant names in sharpie. It’s a little weird that there are 6 seed types for 4 planters, but I have a couple planters the same size, so it will be easy for me to try and grow all at once.
I have not tried germinating these seeds yet so my review is based entirely on the appearance of the kit and the contents that were received.

Sadly, these never sprouted. I followed all off the directions as far as I could, including soaking the seeds.
As a minor nitpick, there are little signposts. but the seed packets don't have removable labels, so even if you got something to grow you'll have to make new labels.
I bought this knowing I'd know to put them in real pots eventually, but I never got to that step :(

I followed instructions. Only 2 succulent seeds have sprouted but don't seem to be getting any bigger after coming 1/2 inch out of the soil. None of the cacti seeds came up. I can't decide if I should buy seeds and try again or just go buy living succulents and cacti. Containers are cute and I'll reuse them. I was hoping to have lots of plants sprout to give gifts.

Honestly not sure what to think but just heard some noise from my kitchen and went to find out what it was and one of the pots just burst open. It didnt fall off anything as they all have been there since yesterday. I feel like im crazy now lol thanks weird succulent and cactus people. But seriously pots are obviously dangerous if they are just bursting like that. Also while writing this a second one just cracked. Now thats just cheap.

I purchased around mid February and followed directions. After 2 months plus, 3 out of the 4 plants died, nothing grew. The 1 plant that survived, I don’t think it is even a cactus as it looks like a long piece of grass. Totally disappointed for a kit as simple as this. Save your money and buy something else. The price is way over valued for the product.

This set is really quite nice as far as the pots and drip trays go. The set comes with 4 pots, 4 drip trays, wooden spike labels, 3 types of cactus seeds, and 3 types of succulent seeds. I'm not sure if maybe they sat in a hot warehouse too long or if the seeds weren't properly cared for when drying but I was only able to get 2 cactus seeds to sprout despite following the instructions. They don't require a whole lot of water, just the types of plants they are but in any case took 3 months to make sure this review wasnt just 2 weeks of watching for bloom. I tried every single type of seed that came with it. Since the pots are still adorable despite the seeds not sprouting, I went and purchased succulents from a local store just to use them. Once planted the succulents did just fine in the pots and have done well since. I guess it's really hit or miss on the included seeds but the set is cute.

Since this is my first time I honestly was super frustrated at first with the seeds not germinating, but then one day I checked them and most of them actually started growing! Gave as gift to my teenager. Two months later nothing has even sprouted. My mother is a certified horticulturalist who helped us since there is a lack of instructions.
We used a bowl to breakup the soil packs and added water very slowly until just moistened. After adding seeds we watered and put by a window.

This is a well-packaged product...nice instruction booklet, mini pots, variety of seeds, etc. After following all instructions and waiting for 4+ weeks to get seeds to germinate in the pots provided (no success), I created a mini greenhouse with a clear Tupperware container to increase the humidity and warmth, and got several seeds to germinate after a week. I can transfer the seedlings to the mini pots when they get a little bigger.
Bottom line -- very nice packaging, but you may need to improvise a little from the provided instructions in order to get the seeds to germinate.

I've long wanted some plants on my desk that I can't easily kill. The Deluxe Succulent & Cactus Seed Grow Kit comes with 3 cacti, and 3 succulent seeds, dirt, fertilizer, and small pots. The instructions are well laid out and even I could follow them.
I planted a pair of cacti and put them on my desk. I love the idea of growing a couple of plants that will be with me every day. I haven't tried the succulents yet simply because my SO has about a dozen of them downstairs. Talk about hard to kill plants.
Overall, this is an amazing growing set, and it would make a fantastic gift. Don't hesitate on this one.

This is a great set for pandemic projects for children. It is very easy to do and so can be a good project for ages 4-18. The instructions are clear. The ceramic pots are very pretty. The types of seed (cactus and succulent) are of a sufficient variety to be interesting. The child can select the seed based on the printed material (pictures and description of each plant included). The soil comes in dehydrated discs that expand quickly in water. We have planted two seeds as suggested in each of 4 pots and have put them in indirect light just off to the side of an aerogarden that we are using. I will review again once they have germinated. I have some fear that the seeds will not germinate even though we soaked them in water overnight as recommended. It has been two weeks and so far nothing.

The second day after planting, one of my 4 planters had cracked all the way down the side. I emailed the company directly with photo and have not received a response. I haven't noticed any growth in my 3 remaining specimen, however I have adopted the Finding Nemo approach. Meaning I am extremely over protective and move them around the house to catch the best sunlight throughout the day and constantly warm the pots in my hands.

This is a really nice little cactus/succulent planter set for anyone looking to grow a little desk plant at home. It has everything you need to grow several of your own, including planter pots, soil, seeds, and a comprehensive guide that walks you through the setup process. Make sure to read the guide prior to starting, the seeds need to soak for about a day in room temperature water before you start to grow. It's very easy to set up as long as you follow the instructions. This would make a great gift for people who like gardening and plants, even those without outdoor areas to work in.

I've grown cactuses and succulents for a couple of years now, but from already established plants or clippings, not from seed. I am excited to give this kit a try. I get six sets of seeds to choose from and four pots to work with. If I wanted to, I could snag a couple more little pots lying around and plant everything. But I appreciate Home Grown's efforts to assemble a basic giftable kit.
Cactus and succulents are relatively easy to care for, assuming you know their light, fertilizing, and water needs, which can vary. Universally, they do not require a lot of water or attention. They are like the cats of the plant-world. Left mostly to their own devices, they'll do just fine. When you mess with them too much is when you experience issues with these sorts of plants.
Anyway. I'd love to tell you more about the planting itself, but these need to wait until near spring. I can then put them outside shortly after and have more success getting them going in warmer weather.
Overall, a nice gift-worthy set for anyone who has any interest in plants. Maybe a hint on the pricey side (~$46), but they do include everything you need. And by the time you buy everything separately, seeds included, you'd be spending about as much.

This cactus and succulent grow kit has everything you need. The kit cones nicely packaged and would make a wonderful gift. All the items included are well made. The ceramic pots are marbled and very pretty. The bamboo trays fit just perfectly under the pots. The instruction booklet is well illustrated with clear directions. It's nice that it comes with the potting pellets and seeds so you don't have to buy those separately. I've planted mine already and am just waiting for the seeds to sprout.
This is a fun kit to use and I really like mine.

This is really an impressive kit. I've bought and seen others similar, but the quality of this is top-notch.
You get the normal peat pellets that you hydrate and use as your growing medium. You get the kelp fertilizer. You get 8 varieties of seeds (4 each cacti and succulents...I'm pretty sure. More on that in a minute.). You get nice wooden labels to stick in your pots and matching drip saucers. What's really amazing are the pots. They are absolutely gorgeous. Each one has a subtle swirly glaze on it that makes it look amazing.
Where I am a bit disappointed in is the seed variety. One of the seeds I was most excited about receiving and planting were the lithops. My kit did not contain that. Still, this is a great kit and would make an amazing gift.

I got this kit as a gift and I absolutely loved it. I am a teen and very inexperienced, but was able to easily follow the well descripted instructions to plant my plants. I highly enjoyed picking out my cacti and succulents and getting to read about them. The kit comes with lots of extra soil if needed in the future. The marble pots that come in the kit are exactly as pictured and are very nice and beautiful. The cacti and succulents are very easy to care for, require almost no water, and are fun to watch grow. This would be a perfect gift or a perfect kit for someone wanting a house plant.
